Website at I.P. Address 78.46.242.220 Is A Spam Advertised Website

You typed in the name of a strange sounding website to find out why you are being spammed, and you are being constantly pestered with spam advertising this website? This article will give some tips on stopping it. With your help, We can quickly put this spammer out of business or at least get them to change their behavior.

I have received numerous spam messages advertising various websites that point to the I.P. address 78.46.242.220. The Internet Service Provider for this address does not respond to abuse complaints and neither does the I.S.P. of the computer from which the spam comes. In order to get to the bottom of the situation. I have done some research and uncovered information that may be useful for recipients of these spam messages.

Spammer does many things to get around spam filters such as registering muliple domains that use the same I.P. address. These spam advertised webpages do not directly display the advertised website. What happens is that when a broswer visits the advertised website, it is directed to another website that is hosted by on of the several pay per click outfits. These seemingly random domains, again, all point to the I.P. address 78.46.242.220. I wrote a program to analyze this URL, and this is what I have found:

The domain name (the part before /php/....) varies, but still points to 78.46.242.220. The part, /php/off/ remains constant. The part of the URL where the website redirects the browser is the number part of the URL. In other words, the following URLS will redirect the web browser to http://iluv.clickbooth.com/?E=CofMARO3%2bV%2bUgDEBq4otDKPpzqv%2fR5ws&s1= This URL will then be redirected through Clickbooth's network, and the browser will be instructed to visit http://trial.beautemd.com/?afid=cb&sid=135005

Knowing this fact will help mail administrators design filters to block out such spam and help users know where to direct complaints. After repeated spamming, and no responses to my complaints, I had become frustrated and decided to dig a little deeper and see what I could do to follow the trail. I wrote a small program that did a scan of all the spam advertised website's redirects. The program works by increasing the number portion of the URL by one for each visit. The majority of these spam advertised URL's redirected through the websites run by Clickbooth. Contacting Clickbooth via email and getting a reply has been an elusive proposition. Clickbooth's Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/ClickboothFanPage. A webpage that perports to communicate with Clickbooth's support staff can be visited by going to http://clickbooth.helpjuice.com/. One has to type in Report Spamming or similar topic into the input box to get to another page where a message can be sent.

I have decided to single out Clickbooth because of all the spam messages I'm writing about involves Clickbooth's network. I originally thought that Clickbooth was ignoring my complaints, but today, I heard from one of their compliance officers. It is possible that Clickbooth may be a victim in all of this as well. I was informed that Clickbooth could not tell that this spam involved their network. However, I sent Clickbooth the data I collected using my program.
